Don’t die trying to smell good – Use a deodorant crystal!

Chances are, you’ve probably received an email or two about how conventional deodorants and antiperspirants cause cancer because of the ingredients aluminum chlorohydrate and aluminum zirconium.  It is said that these aluminum compounds are absorbed through the skin and into the lymph nodes.  Aluminum, is a neurotoxin and is linked to Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. (Thus,  you should also get rid of your aluminum frying pans while at it!).

According to the National Cancer Institute:

Some research suggests that aluminum-based compounds, which are applied frequently and left on the skin near the breast, may be absorbed by the skin and cause estrogen-like (hormonal) effects (1). Because estrogen has the ability to promote the growth of breast cancer cells, some scientists have suggested that the aluminum-based compounds in antiperspirants may contribute to the development of breast cancer (1).

Research linking conventional deodorants and antiperspirants to cancer may be inconclusive, but so is the research of many other causes of cancer. So rather than waiting to find out, why not eliminate the risk altogether?

HUMAN BIOLOGY:

The purpose of sweating is to cool the body and release toxins. Toxins are not something you want to keep in your body. It’s nature’s way of keeping us healthy. Now, it’s not the sweating that causes body odour, it’s the bacteria that comes into contact with the sweat.  So in order to eliminate body odour, all you need to do is create an environment where the bacteria can’t thrive.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH TRADITIONAL DEODORANTS?

Traditional deodorants mask body odor with a perfume, contain alcohol to shrink pores, or aluminum chlorohydrate/aluminum zirconium. These compounds enter the pores and physically block or clog them to reduce the flow of perspiration. In essence, they inhibit the body’s natural expulsion of toxins.

THE SOLUTION – A DEODORANT CRYSTAL:

These crystals are made up of a variety of minerals which form a new compound that is too big to be absorbed by the skin. When applied to the skin, it creates an environment where bacteria cannot thrive, thus, no more body odour. Other benefits are that they are fragrance-free, non-sticky, will leave no marks on your clothes or white flakes or residue on the skin.  They are approved for safety by the Environmental Working Group, and recommended by health professionals.

DEODORANT CRYSTALS ARE:

  • Safe for your health (regardless if the jury’s out on aluminum chlorohydrate, it’s 100% sure that these are safe)
  • Better for the environment (No harsh chemicals)
  • Less packaging
  • Available in health food stores ($4-$8)
  • Last 1 yr

I bought one along time ago in a health food store but then it just sat in my cupboards for years.  I switched to these fancy spray deodorants that I bought in France…they smelled oh so good. But the reality is, every morning after I put it on, I would have a sneezing attack for the next hour because of the perfume and God knows what else. Not to mention, these containers cannot be recycled.  I then decided to use the crystal and you know what…it actually worked.  Most of the time it keeps me dry (except if I exercise of course) and I have no odour. The best part is, the crystal will last about one year so you reduce the packaging waste from conventional deodorants.

Today, my fashionable Australian colleague, Damon, just told me his girlfriend got him on to using one as well. Check out his testimony!

DamonAfter months of ridiculing my girlfriend for rubbing a crystal under her arm (I was beginning to think I was living with a witch) and claiming it had the powers of a deodorant, I have finally seen the light. I took the plunge and agreed to try it out…I had to tough it out for 1 week as that was how long it took for the powers of the crystal to kick-in but once I got over that, it has been nothing but smooth sailing. The crystal deodorant stick really does work – I don’t sweat (or stink), and now I’m not ruining shirts and t-shirts with deodorant stains that become harder than Hugh Hefner at a Viagra party. Oh, and I’ve also got less chemicals in my body which can only be a good thing.

So get out there and try it out. Let us know what you think!

  1. Anyone concerned they might accidentally turn into a hippie if they rub crystals on their pits: Lush has a baking soda/lemongrass/tea tree oil bar that smells great, lasts a long time and won’t make you feel all girly to use — once you get out of Lush, that is.

  2. I have one! It’s called “Pierre d’Alun” and it’s the best thing I ever found! No paraben, no perfume, nothing weird: just a lovely white crystal.

  3. Deodorant crystals are not 100% safe. They are in fact, 100% unsafe. They contain ammonium alum, or ammonium aluminum sulfate dodecahydrate, a sulfate of aluminum, and therefore an aluminum salt, just like aluminum chloride, the principal ingredient in standard deodorants.

Just like aluminum chloride, ammonium alum stops the human body from secreting sweat. Just like aluminum chloride, ammonium alum has been linked to: several types of cancer, osteoporosis, anemia, headaches, kidney problems, liver problems, gastrointestinal problems, extreme nervousness, bone softening, decreased calcium absorption, muscle aches, and even colic and rickets in babies.

In terms of toxicity, aluminum chloride and ammonium alum are one in the same; as is potassium alum, or any other aluminum salt. Through clever propaganda, these crystal manufacturers have marketed their product as being “all-natural” or comprised of 100% natural mineral salts and nothing more.

Arsenic, lead, and mercury are also “all-natural,” but that doesn’t exactly mean that they should be applied liberally to your underarms. All aluminum salts are “natural mineral salts” as they naturally exist in chemistry. Again, that does not necessarily mean that they are healthy. In fact, they’ve pretty much been universally declared unhealthy by the scientific community.

This is basic chemistry we are talking about. I am the owner of Jungleman All-Natural Deodorant, and I constantly have to explain to people why crystals are so bad for you.

In fact, even if you never use my product, I would rather you use one of the sucky ones that don’t work, than one of these crystals. The crystals are just as bad, if not worse than standard deodorants.

  4. I have one my GF bough me and it really does what the people here say it does.

It doesn’t smell, it feels like you have nothing on you, won’t sting your clothes. It is funny at first because all you do is get the rock wet and rub it against your armpit, just like that and it works GREAT!

I won’t buy a deodorant for the rest of my days.
